The Best Meditation Cushion For You

What is meditation?

Wikipedia defines meditation as, "a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state." (click here for full article)

You can find many ways to define meditation. I like this broad definition of meditation because it can mean different things to each one of us. At the basic level, we know that in a meditation practice we focus to find awareness. In order to focus, it's helpful to have as little distractions as possible.

Cut Out The Distractions to Increase Focus

  • Find a private space
  • Close your eyes
  • Wear comfortable clothes
  • Turn off your phone (or put it on silent)
  • Support a good posture

Our bodies are really good at distracting us, especially if we don't feel great. You can cut out an un-needed distraction by ensuring you have the most comfortable and supported position as possible. For many of us, the most comfortable position is seated. But that looks different for each of us.

Finding the best position for your meditation practice can help to lengthen your practice. An easeful practice is a peaceful practice.

We make 3 different sizes of meditation cushions plus a meditation mat to suit your personal needs. Below we've made a comparison chart to help you determine which Love My Mat cushions are right for you.

How to choose a meditation cushionOnce you have the right meditation set up there are a couple other things to consider before beginning, re-started or continuing a regular meditation practice.

Things to consider for your Meditation Practice

  • Where will you meditate?
  • Will you meditation alone or with a group?
  • What time of day with you practice meditation?
  • What type of meditation ritual will you practice?

Still not sure where to start? As Wikipedia mentioned above, a meditation practice generally uses a technique. There are many types of meditation that you can try.

What is a meditation technique?

A technique is a skillful or efficient way of doing or achieving something. Some of our favourite meditation techniques or style include;

  • Guided Meditation
  • Loving Kindness or Metta Meditation
  • Transcendental Meditation
  • Breathwork Meditation
  • Japa Meditation
  • Moving Meditation
  • Mantra Meditation
  • Focused Meditation

You can find several of these meditation styles offered in our selection of Free Guided Meditations.
